 There are 11 schools located within the 720 sq mile attendance area. Tahoe Truckee Unified School District. Elementary School K-5th; Donner Trail, Glenshire & Truckee, Middle School 6th-8th; Alder Creek Middle School and High School 9th-12th; Sierra and Truckee. Charter Schools: Forest, Twin Ridges, Sierra Expeditionary Learning School and Coldstream Alternative School.  Private Schools (focus on academics and skiing and snowboarding): Custom Learning Academy, Squaw Valley Academy, Sugar Bowl Academy.  College: Sierra College and Sierra Nevada College.

What is the community culture like (i.e. private, gated, urban, diverse, etc)

A top vacation destination-Truckee Tahoe area: Your friends are your family and recreation is everyone’s top priority.  Preserving nature, our lakes/streams/rivers while incorporating green-minded activities, events, etc. There are upscale areas with price tags up to $25 million all the way down to mobile home parks and low income apartments. There are gated communities, Golf Communities, Lakefront, etc.

 What is transportation like to the area’s major surrounding cities, or within the city?

Air Access: Reno/Tahoe Airport (40 miles from Truckee), Truckee Tahoe Airport. Rail Access: Truckee Train Depot. Bus Access: T.A.R.T. (Truckee Area Regional Transit), Greyhound, Amtrack, Truckee Transit/Town of Truckee, Ski Shuttles, Dial A Ride, North Lake Tahoe Express. Taxi Service: Anytime Taxi, Bluebird Taxi, High Sierra Taxi and North Tahoe Checker Cab. Limousine Service: Bell Limo/Airport Mini Bus, Reno-Tahoe Limousine & Shuttle Service, Sunset Limo, Truckee Tahoe Transportation.

Is there a strong political presence or community leader involvement in this area?

Truckee Town Council: Joan deRyk Jones-Mayor, Barbara Green-Vice Mayor. There are several non-profit organizations in the area that North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, Sierra Business Council, Tahoe Regional Planning Authority, League to Save Lake Tahoe, Lakefront Owners Association, Sierra Club, Sierra Green Building Association, Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, Truckee River Watershed Council, High Fives, For Goodness Sake,Tahoe Truckee Volunteer Connection, Keep Sierra Green. Healthcare is a large part of the community: New Tahoe Forest Cancer Center.

Are there any local traditions that bring the community together? (sports events, charity events, sales, holiday celebrations)?

DOGS!  The Lake Tahoe and Truckee community have a love for dogs.

Fall Harvest Festival in Tahoe City.  Haunted Streets Halloween celebration in Truckee-Oktoberfest at Squaw Valley in October. Tahoe-Truckee wide Arts & Crafts/Food & Wine Festival in September.

What is the job market like or major industries that are at the core of this area?

50% of population are in the service industry, 15% construction, 10% finance/real estate, 5% public administration, 10% retail/trade.  Major employer: Ski Areas, Clear Capital, Golf Courses/Clubs, Grocery Stores, Schools, Health Care, Lumber Co, Sanitation.

What are some thriving small local businesses that make an impact in the community?

Sierra Business Council, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association-North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Merchant Association & Restaurants all for the Buy Local program.

What are the local property taxes like and what other financial responsibilities should a property owner in this area be prepared for?
