The River Ranch – Corner Highway 89 and Alpine Meadows Road
The best way to spend a beautiful afternoon on the Truckee River…the 11th Annual Truckee Duckee Derbee!
The rubber duck races benefit the Humane Society of Truckee/Tahoe and the afternoon’s festivities include live music provided by Angele and the Wildwood Band on the outdoor patio, a BBQ, drink specials, a fabulous raffle, the hilarious “Dogz in Dudz” K-9 costume contest, and in true derby tradition, the “Cool Catz in Hatz” contest open to all “human” attendees. Festivities run from 1-4 p.m., with the Dogz in Dudz starting at 2 p.m.
This year’s event will also mark the grand opening of the Ranch’s outdoor patio which attracts bikers, hikers and rafters to its spectacular setting on the banks of the Truckee River.
The pre-race party and registration starts at 1 p.m; “Dogz in Dudz” at 2 p.m.; the Cool Catz in Hatz at 2:30 p.m. and the Derbee commences immediately after. Cost to sponsor a duck is $10 and the top three ducks win cash. Payout depends on the size of the pot. There is no cost to enter the costume or hat contest. Prizes will be awarded to the most stylish and creative canines and hats as determined by a panel of celebrity judges.
Kristen Ferral of Lake Tahoe Television and Bill Jensen, publisher of the Squaw Valley Times, will serve as emcees. Expected to attend as celebrity judges are World Cup Champion Tamara McKinney, now a real estate broker with Sierra Sotheby’s, and local Olympian Travis Ganong, who was the top U.S. downhiller at Sochi this winter. A Giant mountain bike courtesy of West Shore Sports is the grand prize in the raffle. Winner of the grand prize does not have to be present.
The first 100 pre-sold ducks (online or by phone) will be entered to win a special prize. Just use the PayPal option below to provide us with the number of ducks you’ll be purchasing, your contact information and you’re all set. Or, call us at 530.587.5948 to purchase over the phone. The prize money awarded depends on the amount of ducks sold, with the average 1st place duck earning up to $150.00 in winnings, 2nd place at $100.00 and 3rd place at $50.00.
Live music, the super-silly Duckee Derbee race, dog costume contest, a fantastic raffle, cold beers and dogs galore round out this fabulous, family afternoon.
The TDD is sponsored by the Kiwanis of North Lake Tahoe, Michael Hohl Subaru, Goose Island Brewery, West Shore Sports, Charter Communications, Suddenlink, Outside Lake Tahoe TV, Around Tahoe Truckee TV, Squaw Valley Times, Giant Bicycles, Squaw Valley Institute and Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.
